NORTHAMPTON - Police believe that a man found hanged from the Lamont Bridge at Smith College this morning committed suicide.
The man's name has not been released. According to Northampton Police Detective Lt. Kenneth J. Watson, the man was a Northampton resident in his 50s.
A Smith College faculty member crossing the bridge spotted the body about 8:30 a.m., Watson said.
Investigators and officers from Smith College Public Safety, Northampton Police and the State Police were on the scene, located near the college's athletic fields, throughout the morning.
